If you are plagued by bleeding, receding, or red and swollen gums you may be a victim of periodontal disease – more commonly known as gum disease. And dentists and periodontists have been treating gum disease the same old traditional way for decades – by deep cleaning you gums and teeth. They numb you up and scrape you down every three months.
But deep cleaning just isn’t enough to combat gum disease. Gum disease is caused by bacteria and you can’t kill bacteria by scraping it away. That’s like trying to permanently remove hair by shaving it. You know how well that works – it grows back. So does bacteria if you don’t kill the cause. And you need antibiotics to do that.
However, in order to properly eradicate the bacteria with antibiotics you have to know which bacteria you are in your mouth. You need to know your bacteria. Enter OralDNA lab.
OralDNA lab allows the Drs. Santiago and their clinical partners to take a sample of a patient’s mouth bacteria and perform a culture to determine which of the many bad bacteria your mouth is hosting. From that we customize a plan that includes traditional in-office therapy with specific antibiotics to heal you thoroughly. Gum disease is plain and simple, it’s a bacterial disease and needs to be treated as such.
We are a Diamond Status Provider which is based on experience testing patients with OralDNA® Labs' salivary diagnostics tests.
The days of radiation and gagging with 2D X-rays are gone. With Digital X-rays, your radiation exposure is reduced 90%. And no more trying to clench intrusive, cutting pieces of cardboard in your mouth that trigger your gag reflex. This method is comfortable and safe.
They are also more versatile for the dentist. Just like any other digital file or photo, they can be emailed, enlarged and manipulated.
We use an in-house 3D imager for diagnostic and planning needs, as opposed to 2D X-rays. Anyone that has had more than a few dental X-rays knows they can make you literally want to gag. But 3D imaging is far more comfortable for you. Also, this method also allows for more accuracy with diagnosis and the entire implant process, and accuracy is necessary.
Our machine captures a 3D scan of your jaw and sinuses. From the 3D image, we are able to make a surgical template that fits into your mouth to guide the drill – like tracing paper for the dentist. With a guide for the drill, there is no guess-work, reducing the risk of miscalculations and shortening the time you’re in the chair.
We’re one of only a handful of dental practices in the Seattle area that offer this fascinating method for fast, effective healing. PRF (platelet rich fibrin) is a custom-made serum created from your own blood to help your body heal after an invasive dental procedure.
First, a small amount of your blood is drawn by Dr. Kimberly Santiago in the dental office. Then, your blood is separated to isolate the part that carries healing and immunity boosting properties. From this, a “healing” serum is created. After a surgical procedure, the serum is applied to the area where the work was done. We use the PRF serum with all gum and bone grafts to help you heal like a teenager and maximize the grafting results.
WThis potion not only speeds up recovery time, but helps prevent infection, too. It also increases bone formation, decreases inflammation, and helps with clotting to make your healing more comfortable.
Our computer-guided implant surgery is used in conjunction with 3D imaging X-rays. A machine takes a three-dimensional scan of your jaw and sinuses. Now, with a clear, full view of your mouth, Drs. Kimberly and Jed will evaluate your needs and make a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan.
Then the 3D scan is used to create a surgical template to help guide the instruments during surgery. All aspects of the surgery are planned out before it begins. This helps eliminate the risk of errors and allows the procedure to go more smoothly and quickly. Also, this method of surgery is less invasive and traumatic for you, with quicker healing times and less swelling.
